THE U.S. SUPREME COURT has declined to decide the fate of Eagle Mountain, a proposed trash dump near Joshua Tree National Park that would be the nation's largest. The dump would be sited in a former open pit mine in Riverside County called Eagle Mountain. By refusing to grant certiorari, the Supreme Court let stand a lower court ruling that called into question critical aspects of the land swap between the Bureau of Land Management and the dumps developers, Kaiser Ventures and Mine Reclamation.
