Fed: Lawyers say don't exempt doctors from being sued
Lawyers have attacked proposals to exempt doctors and community groups from being suedfor negligence.
The Law Council of Australia says neither group has a right to cause injury throughnegligence without facing the consequences.
The council's views are in a submission to the Negligence Review Panel.
The panel was set up in May after concerns about spiralling public liability insurance costs.
Law Council president TONY ABBOTT says the law currently balances the different interestsof injured people, defendants and the community.
He says changes should not be made if they will adversely affect the vulnerable withoutgood reason."
