Cancer pledge

KATE Adie, the BBC's chief news correspondent, has visitedBristol's Cancer Help Centre to pledge support for its work.

In the 1970s Ms Adie spent five years with BBC Radio Bristol andgot to know the centre's founder, Pat Pilkington, when they worked onprogrammes.

Ms Adie said: "I was invited to the centre's opening when it movedhere in 1983 and have kept in touch since.

"A holistic approach to health care is vital. One of the thingsthat is important about the centre in Bristol is that there's no'clinical' atmosphere like a hospital. The staff here are aware ofthe strong link between mental wellbeing and physical health."
