Qld:Truck drivers dragged man from burning tanker

Two men who put their lives on the line to free a fuel tanker driver trapped in the
wreck of his burning rig have received national bravery awards.

Governor-General Major General MICHAEL JEFFERY has announced Queenslanders GEOFF ROBINSON
and DENNIS SAVAGE have each been awarded a Star of Courage.

The pair smashed a hole in the burning tanker's cabin and lifted the unconscious driver
to safety in September 2002.

They'd been driving their trucks behind the tanker when it ran off the Bruce Highway,
flipped onto its side in a two-metre deep gully and burst into flames at Kybong, in south-east
Queensland.

Mr SAVAGE says he knew it could've have been him lying unconscious, and if it were,
he'd want someone to help.
